The Indoor Championships competitors will be announced on Tuesday, February 27th. But, based on what we can probably rely upon, the Oregon women's team should be represented in no fewer than nine of the 17 events. In the sprints, there should be Mays in both the 60 and 200 meters. McCormick will represent in the 60 meter hurdles. The mile should include Kasimierska and Ayyildiz. The 3K will have Elmore. Williams will be in the Pentathlon and Ross figures strongly in the Shot Put. Finally, both the DMR and the 4 X 400 will have Oregon teams entered. Decisions will have to be made relative to the DMR team composition, since the 1200 m and 1600 m legs could include any combination of Elmore, Barnett, Ayyildiz, Frias, or Kasimierska. With those options open, Oregon has the potential luxury of doubling both Ayyildiz and Elmore, leaving them out of the DMR picture. Other decisions will have to be made relative to the 400 and 800 meter legs. On the cusp Ducks who may or may not make it into the championships are Chocek in the Pentathlon and Elmore in the mile.
In any event, I envy those of you who will be in Boston, but it should still be fun for the rest of us to follow the Women's team as they strive for a podium finish.

We should know by 2p on Monday whether Chocek and Elmore move up on the list due to scratches. The declarations will be posted here: rtspt.com/ncaa/d1indoor24/Personally I would be surprised if the coaches don't scratch Elmore from the mile. I would also be surprised if Stanford's Alyssa Jones declares in the Pentathlon as she is one of the favorites in the LJ and it would be difficult for her to be at her best in that event after a full day of the Pentathlon. She has also qualified in the HJ the following day. If she does scratch the Pentathlon, that makes Chocek the first one out. Looking at the list in front of her, all but Allie Jones have competed most recently in their conference championship or last chance meet. Allie Jones has not appeared since back in January when she won the Razorback Invitational to set her nation-leading score. She did scratch out of one meet that the Ducks also competed in, so she may be injured...of course, that is complete speculation. Edit: OK, it should have said 5p, not 2p, but it is still late. In previous years, they have posted it as early as 2p.

As support for mallardg's observations, here are the current positions of the Oregon women on the tfrrs performance list. (available for all teams through the Form Chart Tracker) Should we be concerned that Kazimierska hasn't been seen recently?

Only one Senior on the whole list, and she is a Junior in eligibility outdoors...

Meanwhile, let's don't forget the men who project to score a goose egg. WTH! Best facilities in the nation. historical program, and we have a team that probably won't score and another fighting to get into the top ten. This is getting like the pre-Lananna years when Duck fans of other sports had zero interest in the track programs. Things need to change, and quickly.

This is a concern of many, but having heard his responses to questions on the matter at the OTC annual dinner, it is clear that coach Schumacher has elected to take the long road back to respectability. At this time, his recruiting for next year is going well, while he has stockpiled the talented freshman redshirts. Though he used the Fall/Winter for healing and strength-building of his talented runners, I think we will see many of them breaking out during the Outdoor season. The attitude of the distance runners is really good right now, and we are not seeing desertions, so I think they have bought into 100% to Jerry's Program. Trust the Process, as they say.

Wow - did I screw this up royally! I have read the pre-championships manual so many times before that this year I just half-assed it and put out bad information, for which I apologize. The review period starts TODAY (Tuesday) at 2pm, not yesterday. The declaration period for the coaches started at 5pm yesterday (which I mistook for the review period), but then the review does not happen until today.

The coaches' reviews are out! While I was correct about Alyssa Jones, no other athletes scratched from the heptathlon, so Taylor will apparently miss out by one place.

This is getting like the pre-Lananna years when Duck fans of other sports had zero interest in the track programs. Things need to change, and quickly. Whether Oregon has a flock of talented redshirting freshman distance runners or not, the fact remains not a single male athlete even QUALIFIED for indoor nationals. Yet the men traveled and entered meets in Boston (twice), Albuquerque, Arkansas as well as the Pacific Northwest. This after not qualifying a team for cross country nationals and having their only individual qualifier place 114th, which was slower than the FIFTH runner on 10 of the first 11 teams. And of course this after finishing with two points at outdoor nationals in the spring. Oregon will need to have more than a handful of young distance runner break through established (not potential) distance pored Washington, Stanford, BYU, Northern Arizona et al to be sniffing competitiveness with Arkansas, Florida, LSU etc. They will need a minor miracle finish in the top half of the Big Ten next year.

Actually, Rafael Raap did qualify and surprisedly Elliott Cook did not scratch and missed qualifying by one place.

Perhaps it is the pink colored glasses, or the glass half full, but I really believe the Oregon men will be fighting for Outdoor national championship podium spots within two years. Coach Schumacher admits this is a "building" program, but the recruitment of top runners will pay off in the longer haul. I mean, probably his most talented runners are all sitting out this Winter, in anticipation of being somewhat competitive (as competitive as can be with a bunch of freshmen) this Spring. He has been careful in bringing along potential superstars like Simeon Birnbaum and Connor Burns. R. Harrison has not run while dealing with recovery from mono. After a minor setback, the very talented Elliott Cook shut down his Indoor Season to focus on the bigger picture this Spring and Summer. Sergio del Barrio will likely be one of Oregon's all-time great steeplers before he finishes school. I am leaving out a number of other very young and talented kids on this team, and I believe they will give the other middle/distance schools a run for their money in the Big 18 in 2025.

I worry if we don't have sprinters and field event athletes, we can't win with four or five distance runners. With our state of the art practice facilities, we should be attracting a few of the "warm weather" athletes.

I agree that we need an all-around team. It seems that we have several Javelin throwers coming in, as well as a shot putter and a hammer thrower. Coach Schumacher recently said that coach Taylor is recruiting two quality male sprinters. Maybe others have specific information on incoming recruits, transfers, or redshirting field event athletes?

Accepted entries formchart tracker is available here chileduck.com/ft/ft-indoor24.phpOregon women are slotted into 10 place going by seed (season best) positions. But I don't think it'll take much to boost them into a podium finish, (e.g a 3 place finish by Maddy in the DMR and 3000 with a 5th by Klaudia in the mile should do it). Try moving things around with the formchart tracker app to make your own predicitons. The tracker app will be updated with more information when the start lists appear.

When these runners go head-to-head the qualifying times go out the window. I'm confident our mid-distance women will be near the front during the races.
