And then there is 3....wow this has got to be the best recruiting/transfer trio landed in one fell swoop by the ducks in one event area other than last years Arizona state throwing dou!!!! Sam McDonnell is joining the UCLA teammates in Eugene. I am sorry to say but Coach Helen would have never been able to pull off this type of recruiting class between the incoming freshman recruits and transfers. I don't know if Mauricia ever had that much in one year either. You can say what you want but the impact of Jerry, Shalane, and Solinsky is definitely making its mark. And to think all of Shalane's recruits for this year are American runners....very interesting.

Please tell me that LetsRun is once again crazy. Just saw on the site where Oregon has "hired" the released UCLA coach Brosnan. Why do I get a feeling that something is rotten in Eugene?

Lots of activity on the women's side. Anyone have any predictions for more transfers on the men’s side? Could use another 5k/10k guy.

What was the reason for his release from UCLA? I have not followed the story but the little I have read something seems strange.

Well most of the activity all year has been on the men's recruits so it's time the women get some shine. The men's distance squad is LOADED, the women's side needed additional reinforcements and quality depth similar to the men's team. Even if the UCLA transfer don't compete this fall it sets them up next year to still be a podium team when ITB, Girard, and Berry are gone. I think the women's team needs a 5k/10k type more them the men this at this point especially with the men still a bit aways from being a XC podium squad which is not the case for the women. Maybe the men get a few more long distance oriented transfers next year which will set the team up better for the 2024/2025 XC seasons when the current/incoming youngsters can start to really make their impact on the grass.

Good analysis on this, Nate. The Ducks will have lots of talented bodies on the XC courses this Fall. The men will be a bit young to challenge for a podium spot, but the women seem a bit closer to that goal. Are you indicating that ITB has another year (this Fall) on the XC team?

And another one...Lady Ducks land Victoria Patterson formerly of Columbia and Duke prior. She had a breakout year last year running 9:02 3k indoors; 15:55 5k; and 9:51 Steeple. She placed 41st (5 spots behind ITB and 3 spots ahead of Mia Barnett) at the 2022 XC NCAA meet and also made in to the NCAA meet in Austin. She has two years of eligibility left in all three seasons but since this is her second transfer it may be possible that she sits out as well. Again even if she doesn't compete this year that cupboard is being well stocked for the future.
For good measure if you add in Mia Barnett and Victoria Patterson's places where they finished last year into XC NC's in Oregon's scoring 5 that team would have finished 5th. I know that doesn't mean anything especially with those two possibly not eligible to compete this year and even if they do so many other schools have landed multiple top notch transfers as well so the depth of this years top 10 XC teams on the Women's side is insane!!!!

Waiting for confirmation when rosters come out but I have spotted two new Ducks soaring at Hayward. Jack Norman a transfer from NAU is a 6’ 11” high jumper who I assume is a grad transfer. He is also a 49’ 7” triple jumper and can long jump.
The second athlete is Vincent Corday from Diablo Valley College. He has bests of 50.02 in the 400m and 53.96 in the 400m hurdles. He may have 2 or 3 years left of eligibility and could provide some depth but needs significant improvement to factor into scoring at the conference level.

Wow - that makes three 6'11"+ jumpers. The last time I think the Ducks had a 7' jumper was in 2011, Justin Fricke.
Also, I found that Corday ran 52.06 to finish 3rd at the 2023 Northern California CC Championships. For some reason, Athletic.net is not showing all the results for him. He appears to have two years of eligibility left as he ran a year at Santa Rosa JC before transferring to Diablo Valley JC.

And something that I wondered last year is happening this year: UO running club sprinter Kojo Manu has joined the varsity squad. Our 4x400 team which didn’t exist last year looks a lot better this year.

Former Newberg High school product, Gavin Korkeakoski, who spent his freshman year at Colorado Mesa University is returning to Oregon to compete this year in the Javelin. He has a PB of 194’ 4” from high school and improved to 197’ 9” during his freshman year.

It seems that coach Blu is loading up on both elite and walk-on types. He will likely be a busy guy in the near future.
