Nice pick up for the Ducks. And I agree with what you all have said here -- I was continually underwhelmed with Helen's domestic recruiting, so the fact that Peters flipped so quickly after she had talked about Oregon as her dream school is great news.

Shalane hosted her first recruits this last weekend and from what I gathered it was Kate Peters (committed), Lily Cridge, and Katie Clute.
Lily Cridge (Indianapolis, IN) 1600m - 4:54.95PR 3200m - 10:03.16PR
Katie Clute (Olmsted Falls, OH) Mile - 4:46.57PR 3200m - 10:19.47PR

First big time recruit landed by Coach Shumacher; Connor Burns of Missouri has committed to the Ducks. He was the top ranked miler, 3k, and 2miler in his class. He has PRs of 1:51 800/ 3:58 Mile/ 8:11 3k/ and 8:45 2mile. Very big recruit for the ducks who now have arguably the top 1 or 2 recruits on both the men's and women's distance events for the U.S. Very positive signs early on in this recruiting year that the domestic kids are very interested in the program.
Now if the Ducks can keep Tyrone Gorze in state that would be awesome.

I also think we have to give Nick Symmonds an assist for this pickup. Burns was featured on some of Symmonds' YouTube videos this summer, and it was pretty evident from them how much fun Connor Burns was having in Eugene.

Posting again, but look how Nick Symmonds and Karissa Schweizer congratulated Connor on Instagram after his announcement. I could see the BTC being a good recruiting tool for the UO (i.e. elite high school runners see UO as a pipeline to the most prestigious professional distance running program in the US). http://instagr.am/p/CitNJqRLgvX

Nice pickup for Coach Shalane. The tides are starting to turn big time for the Women's distance squad very positive sign for the future of the program.

Good addition by Coach Schumacher; Daniel Watcke out of Illinois. He has really good range from 400-XC with with PRs of 400 - 48.89; 800 - 1:50.34; 1600 - 4:12 (doesn't seem indicative of his ability but hasn't seem to run it much) and has recently run 14:58 for the 5k XC. I would imagine he will be a good candidate for a miler/800 with his speed/endurance. Should fit it well with the rest of the mid distance group. Can't wait to see who else Coach Schumacher adds this recruiting cycle. Hopefully it will also include a big name out of Oregon lol!!!

Oh no! The Powells strike again!
That's a real bummer for the Ducks -- you always want to keep elite in-state talent at home, and Gorze has put up some really impressive times during his HS career.
Do we know how proactively Oregon was recruiting him and why he chose Washington?
