The excellent Xiamen DL today featured but one Duck, Alaysha Johnson. She finished 9th in a field of 10 (yes, they have 10 lanes there), posting a sold 13.01....solid for a collegian, but she needs to work back to her 12.35 form. It's early. I did like that the seat coverings for the upper deck featured 3 ducks flying.
As mentioned in the OR Relays thread, Raevyn won the 800 and her 2:02 is fairly typical of past early season performances. One reason I chose not to attend and pay $25 to see two races of interest, with Rogers being the only superstar I wanted to watch. Brooke Feldmier ran a 2:06.4. She'll always remain in my heart for her gutty, unexpected 3rd place in the 2017 NCAAs. Without that, there'd be no 4x400 for Raevyn to save the day and make it onto the tower.
Sam Prakel also competed, running the 1st leg of the DMR for the second place team (2nd out of 2 teams--they finished 30 seconds behind the Brooks Beasts.). No time indicated for Sam's leg.
Tonight's races will see Prakel stepping down to the 800, joining Travis Thompson (!)...where's he been? (Actually, he ran in Palo Alto a few weeks ago. 1:56 800--ouch). Jackson Mestler will run the Mile (not exactly his race, but it's early) joining Johnny Gregorek. I'd like to see Johnny make a team as he's been a very solid 1500/Miler for years, but I think the US is simply too deep to imagine much more than making the OT final. Gregorek sentiments apply to Sam Prakel, though I'd give Sam a better chance to make the team for Paris. Note that at this time, with many of the marks being indoors, former Ducks rank 7th (Prakel), 12th (Hocker), 14th (Teare), 27th (Centro!) and 35th (Gregorek). Expect those rankings to change since most of the Ducks have been aiming for Paris, not a good indoor time.
Mt Sac: Prandini ran 3rd leg on the winning 4x1 team. No individual time, but the team only ran in the mid 42s. Jasmine Todd got 10th place with in the LJ a rather mediocre 5.96 and Cole Walsh should have gone to Xiamen. His 5.62 for 3rd would have gotten him the same placing in Xiamen and surely more cash.
I probably missed a few as it's hard to follow every meet in the country.
