A change in the schedule today: they are adding the pentathlon and heptathlon. Could Annika Williams, Taylor Chocek, and/or Rafael Raap be attempting to qualify for NCAAs?

It would not be a surprise to see Annika and/or Taylor try to qualify. Could this be further evidence that Schumacher wants to make a serious effort at a podium spot?

As suspected, all the pentathletes along with Raap and Katahtin are competing. We also get a first look at Andrew Walker, although a bit surprised he is not competing unattached. And I suspect that Elmore and Ayyildiz will be mostly pacing during this meet. No Kazmierska, so hopefully she is not hurt or sick.
Edit: Lily Cridge is opening in the 5k, albeit unattached. Also unattached in the 60m is former Duck Sydney Holiday.

I suspected that Klaudia may be the one doing the pacing in the mile and 800. I doubt Ayyildiz is pacing as I mentioned in my DMR post I think the goal is to get her qualified in the 3k with hopes to use her in the DMR and not the mile. Elmore needs to get some competition in as she hasn't run competed in over 3 weeks and I imagine the goal would be to have her ready to score in the 3k at nationals. Wouldn't be surprised if she paces the 3k for Ayyildiz and Frias and then runs the mile the next day.

Heat sheets posted. gohuskies.com/documents/2024/2/22/ken_shannon_heat_sheets.pdfUnfortunately, no Ella Nelson, but Samantha McDonnell is running unattached. Lily Cridge is no longer in the 5k, but Aiden Carter has been added to the heptathlon field...which looks like the Pac-12 champs entry list! Interestingly, Alexa Rossum will be racing her sister in heat 7 of the 60m. My money is on Alexa...

If both Annika Williams and Taylor Chocek can run equal to Chocek's PR of 2:21.79, Williams (who has a PR over a second better) will be solidly over 4300 points and Chocek would be at 4161, which would put her 11th heading into this weekend, which would likely be a bubble performance.

Is this format of only one day for the Pentathlon permanent?

From Wikipedia: Indoors The pentathlon is still held indoors, where the heptathlon cannot be held as arenas are too small for the javelin throw. It was added to the IAAF World Indoor Championships as an unofficial event in 1993 and officially in 1995. The indoor pentathlon is held over a one-day period. Each athlete completes one event at the same time, then there is a 30-minute break until the next event. The current world record is 5055 points by Nafissatou Thiam at the 2023 European Athletics Indoor Championships.[6]

Are there usually at least one cancellation in the women's 3k for the nationals? If Ayyildiz could get in she could score some points running with Elmore. Good job Ducks! Getting three more in the multi-events. Pbs everywhere!

Very solid day one performances across the board with mostly everyone walking away with some form of PB. Crazy how close Ayyildiz came to being within the top 16 in the 3k but there are probably gonna be 2-3 scratches ahead of her but it may be close because Parker Valby is slated to run the 3k today at the SEC meet which she can can solo an 8:54 or faster by herself comfortably. Pretty tough for Chocek as she is probably gonna end up 18-19 on the list after all the results come in this weekend. Not sure if it was by intention or mishap but she was throwing the shot with tennis shows and not throw shoes so don't know if that played a factor in her performance in that event.

Speaking of the shot put I noticed that Coach Blu was helping with the multi-eventers. That’s something I never noticed Whitsit doing.

with Maddy Elmore's 4:31 today, we now have three of the four top Oregon women Milers indoor all time on the current squad.

If my math is correct, Raap is at 5,113 points after the PV. If he runs the same time he ran last year for 1000m, he will score 5,923 points and easily qualify for NCAAs.
Edit: my math was correct, I just used the wrong PV height! Doh! Regardless, he should still finish in the high 5800s which should still be enough.
