10:47.50 DMR for the women... a new Oregon record and less than 1 sec off the collegiate record. Gutsy, gutsy effort by Maddy Elmore leading the whole last leg with a strong finish.

Thx Chileduck. I was wondering what the splits were. Arkansas must have had a really fast 800m leg.

Pretty solid first day for the team overall. What was more impressive with Elmores run was that she negative split it as she only came through the 800 at 2:20. She is definitely capable of 4:30 or faster split in the future. Nelson made a little mistake at 100 meters to go by running up on the Arkansas runner from behind and clipping her. It was almost like there was some room on the inside that Nelson was trying to take. I think that cost her a 2:04 split. She should be able to go 2:03 before the indoor season is done which means there is some good room for improvement left in the women's DMR even if you substitute the 1200 leg at nationals.
Side not sure if anyone caught it but after Jasmine Montgomery won her heat she started the process of forming an "O" with her before saying oh shit and doing a gator chomp lol!!!!

Once a Duck! hee hee. Didn't notice that or Nelson's little mistake. Thanks. How do DMR times for the 800 and 400 usually compare to their individual times because both Ella's pretty much matched their indoor PBs on their legs. Nice to hear your prediction on better times to come... Maddy mentioned that their goal is to beat UW's DMR record set last year. She got close!

Is it bad of me that when Montgomery was winning by a lot I was like “oh shoot” and then when they showed the time I was relieved it wasn’t faster! I definitely didn’t want the two Georgia sophomore stars from last year to run fast and when they were slow it made me feel relief. I always believe in Coach Taylor but it seems like we are underperforming our talent in the sprints right now.

I always thought that the most important measure of success for a sprint coach is to "recruit fast runners". I think Taylor is an excellent speed coach, but we simply are not recruiting the best. In a brief conversation with him, I realized that sprinters gravitate to warmer dryer weather. I think most of his success was recruiting unknown sprinters from junior colleges.

But I guess we wouldn't want our sprinters to be peaking too early, and PJ Ize-Iyamu just bested his PB by .02 in the 60m qualifying round.

Great performances overall as noted by both squads. Jaida Ross had an amazing last three series of throws. Was great to see some duck representation in the men's 800 and depth in the men's 3k with all of them being pretty young. If Erickson, Harding, and Palfrey can knock can knock a second or more off their 800 times they could be in the hunt for qualifying for nationals. I was very impressed by Palfrey bouncing back from the mile. I think that made his 800 more impressive. I don't think a men's DMR is going to be in the cards this season due to Harrison and Cook not being available right now.
Was great to see Grebo make an appearance on the 4x4 as I wasn't expecting to see her since she was entered in any open events. I believe she will have some improvement on her leg by the end of the indoor season. I can see them running 3:29-3:30 by the time nationals rolls around. I was impressed with Klaudia K's 800 and the double back from the milers. Nelson made more strategic mistakes in the open 800 trying to hug the rail but getting trapped when the runners ahead of her couldn't hold the pace. If she woulda reacted to Klaudia's move and been more aggressive in the middle of the race she definitely would have run a half second or more faster. She did well to finish strong more notably beating the Arkansas runner who caught her in the DMR last night. 2:03 is definitely in her cards this indoor which may or may not qualify her for nationals but will definitely be a factor on the DMR. It was great to see Ayyildiz duck debut. She is a feisty runner who can seemingly do well in tactical championship style races. I am not sure if she has really be in a time trail or fast paced race collegiately but I do think there is A LOT more left in the tank for her and wouldn't be surprised if she ran faster than 4:32 this season. Also shot out to Ryan Porter who set an indoor TJ PR on her last jump.
