A couple of interesting notes is that Girard didn’t travel and Melissa Berry had been MIA. Also, no update on Victoria Patterson’s eligibility issue either. I would say there are more question marks this year going into conference than I’ve seen recently.

A couple of interesting notes is that Girard didn’t travel and Melissa Berry had been MIA. Also, no update on Victoria Patterson’s eligibility issue either. I would say there are more question marks this year going into conference than I’ve seen recently. Girard and Patterson were waiting for NCAA compliance paperwork before they could compete so still must be the case. Berry has unfortunately been injured which sucks as she had made so much progress last year and here eligibility looks to be at its end this school year. But you are correct still many questions going into the conference meet. Good thing is that even without Berry, Girard, McClain, and Patterson they Women's team can still place 1-3 in team scoring based on what Stanford, Washington, and Colorado has shown so far this season. Obviously adding Patterson and Girard would probably improve their championship chances but it's not all or nothing at this point. Also if Thompson who had been sick this past week can return to form that also puts them in better contention.

I have no specific insight on who will be entered, but based on the Dellinger race, this could be the Oregon men: Quincy Norman, Elliott Cook, Simeon Birnbaum, Abdinasir Hussein, Ben Balazs. Ku Stevens and/or Josh Schumacher may be included should coach Schumacher be looking for longer distance guys. Other options would be to give Rheinhardt Harrison an opportunity to amend for his Dellinger showing, though he is primarily a middle distance guy. Josh Edwards is an immense talent but it looks like he will remain a redshirt. Shalane Flanagan has quite the challenge in deciding the women's team for this race. My suspicion is that Maddy Elmore, Izzy Thornton-Bott, Emily Girard, Anika Thompson and Klaudia Kazimierska have earned starts. Beyond that, I will venture the remaining two to include Katie Clute and Victoria Patterson. Melissa Berry, and Ella Nelson are carryovers who could slip in there, depending on recent training results. Depending on their eligibility and how well they have adjusted to the new coach, Samantha McDonnell, Mia Barnett and Dalia Frias all have the potential to be included. This should be interesting. I just was reviewing Melissa Berry's Instagram page, and there she is in a pumpkin field holding a pumpkin and wearing a.....BOOT. That probably explains her absence.

Very excited about Klaudia’s big improvement this race. It appears that Shalane challenged her in some way this meet and she certainly met the challenge. I don’t know the coaching conversation but she appeared to get out a little faster and trust her endurance.
Another thing I noticed in the results was everyone moved up over the final 1000m which is great to see. I’m impressed by Ella Nelson who was a good XC in high school but has focused so much on the 800m I didn’t expect her to be much of a factor this year. Her close was also very solid for a two-lapper. Clearly the strength program is helping. Since we haven’t had a chance to see Patterson and Girard don the singlet I don’t know what shape they are in but they certainly expected to be scorers before the year started. This team can definitely get better if all the dominoes fall in place.
