This has been popping for a week or two over on the football boards, and I've wondered about the relative silence here. Guess Bruce is off duty while @ Worlds. As a thrower, this would be a new twist for a shared T&F/Football athlete; sprinters and perhaps a horizontal jumper are all I recall in the last, oh, 40 years?
How will the strength training programs be harmonized? Does Platt dabble with Indoor throws? Intriguing.

We really don't know for certain where Lanning stands re track. Sure, he's paid lip service, but the truth will only emerge when some of our new recruits face Spring practice. Will they be given a few hours a week on the track or full rein? My guess is a lot of this was negotiated during recruiting (at least with the super recruits). We shall see.

I think Rodney Pleasant will be the first test case. It is clear that he is going to be successful on the gridiron so he will probably not be allowed out of much of the spring football training sessions. But we will have to see. With Devon Allen being the exception, I think you have to go back to the Chip Kelly era to find football players who had participated in track & field. I'm thinking of De'Anthony Thomas and LaMichael James who both ran a few races for the Ducks. It was always my impression that these athletes found just enough time away from football to practice a few starts from the blocks and then just showed up for a 100m 60m or 4x100 leading up to and including at Pac-12 championship or NCAA championship prelim. I was curious and looked up the college performances of these two sprinters in the tfrrs.org site. They both had two years of participation, their freshman and sophomore years. LaMichael James ran a 10.62 100m in a Pac-12 Championship in 2011. www.tfrrs.org/athletes/2552500/Oregon/LaMichael_James.htmlDe'Anthony Thomas ran a 10.61 100m in a Pepsi Invitational in 2013. www.tfrrs.org/athletes/4019072/Oregon/De'Anthony_Thomas.html

Am I hopefully imagining this? I don't remember the athlete.
