OMG Connor Burns just broke Galen Rupp's National 5K HSR running 13:37.3 at Sound Running Meet. Tyrone Gorze ran 13:45 in the same race. Gorze may have gotten away to Washington but I think Burn and Birnbaum are nothing to sneeze about. The Previous record was 13:37.9

Connor Burns just broke Rupp's HS 5k record, beating Gortz, who was sporting the "O" for his home state, at Trackfest at Mt SAC.

Another huge pickup by the Ducks. Don't forget about Isaiah Steury who isn't part of the freshman recruiting class but is still part of the the recruiting class as a whole who should also make a significant impact for the team. Being a major player on the national scene for the Men in XC is always a hard balance. Schools like NAU, BYU, OSU, Colorado, and Stanford come to mind. They have good 5k/10k runners which is what it takes for the men's XC national podium type teams. But those same teams aren't the ones who are national players on the track which on the men's side tend to go towards the sprints/jumps/field event powerhouses or teams that have really good middle distance mixed in with other events areas like Oregon has done with their Men's NCAA championship squads. If Schumacher can get the milers/800s runners firing on all cylinders in the next year or two and Coach Taylor can keep the short sprinters healthy, the track is where they will be the most lethal. Without multiple low stick 5k/10k types transferring into the program I can only see a case for the men being a Top 10-15 team next year in XC and maybe Top 7-10 team in two years. I do see Larry Josh Edwards and Isaiah Steury being very good 5k/10k runners before their Duck Careers are over and Maybe Noakes could be behind them, but out of the current roster and recruits I don't know if their is enough heavy hitter 5k/10k talent on the team to be a podium team in XC. Within scholarship limitations, it seems we are loading up on distance runners. If this is true, then Coach Taylor will get discouraged and find greener pastures to match his skills. What a shame that would be!! Football brings the sprinters: Roderick Pleasant: wind legal 10.14 breaking Cal state record, class of ‘23 Luke Moga: 10.497, class of ‘24. He’s a QB!! Yeah, limited practice time, but it’s been done

Fuad Omer has slowly chopped his PRs down the last few weeks with most recently this past week running 47.46 and 21.81 into a negative headwind and running both without being challenged. He also split 46.6 in the 4x4 last night on anchor to bring his team from 3rd to 1st. He will have some competition at the Oregon State meet next week in all of his events which could produce even better times so something to watch for.

Andrew Walker of South Medford is committed to Oregon Football. He has track PRs of 10.71 and 21.21 and will be competing at the State meet next week. Don't know if there is any intentions of him running track. I don't hold my breath with these football recruits as none of them recently have seemingly touched foot on the Oregon Track team.

Rodney Pleasant will be the test case. I believe Lanning, the football coach, said he'll be able to run track at Oregon. We'll see. Perhaps a good sign is that Lanning has supported duel athletes in baseball, Bryce Boettcher, being the most recent example.

Tayson Echohawk did an impressive triple at the Utah State meet winning and running PRs in the 3200- 9:03; 1600- 4:06; and 800- 1:52.17. Keep in mind this is all at altitude which if you use the NCAA alt conversions for similar events the times would be more like: 8:48; 4:02; and 1:51. Not too bad when you consider his PRs would probably rank him the least strongest out of the Duck recruits coming in with him. It's not a knock on him just points to how incredibly talented this recruiting class is. Not clear what his primary events would be as collegiate runner. He may be a 5k/1500 type or could be a candidate for the Steeple and XC contributor as an upperclassman.

Well, if Alana Reid comes to Oregon, Curtis will have one of the most talented women sprint recruits in Oregon history. Brazil Neal is also a solid get. I’m not feeling pessimistic about Oregon’s sprint program.

Under the radar commitment for the men’s team is Austin Milton of Sherwood High School who NateB referenced as a local product earlier in this thread. It appears the he signed back in April but without the fancy edit or fanfare of some of our other commitments. He improved his Javelin PR to 209’ 0” and won state this weekend.

With the Blutreich coaching him, who knows to what heights he might rise!
