I imagined it being that shes in Eugene to focus on track and that it's tracktown USA. Thanks for clarifying!

I did some research . It’s not as if she is from a farm town in California. She is from a city in France that has 1.05 million people. France is after all France. I imagine that city has great restaurants and lots of culture. It might even make Portland seem kind of hick. So it would be natural that she would find Eugene a bit small and boring. She might find most college towns that way. It is great to get a cultured French woman to add to the cosmopolitan environment of this team. I think our track team is very fortunate to have such a wonderful mixture of people from so many different places. What a great experience for the team and others at the university. Keep the internationals coming!
Oregon track has a strong connection to France. Our most talked about athlete in Duck history is a Frenchman. LOL.
