I can’t believe it’s already happening but it’s summer, college visits are happening, and runners are starting to make their plans known. The lady Ducks picked up two 5 star recruits in twins Sam and Nicole Humphries from the talented Flower Mound program in Texas. The two are 800m/1500m types with ability in cross country as well so we will be set to replace the like of ITB and Girard. The two went 1-2 at their 6A XC state meet and then 11th and 13th at NXN in Portland. In track they both tripled at state competing in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m. Sam has outdoor bests of 2:07.68, 4:40.10, and 10:12.60 while Nicole boasts outdoor bests of 2:08.30, 4:44.91, and 10:11.87. https://www.instagram.com/p/Ct1yrxPuFln Here’s a link to an older article about the “dynamic duo”: www.milesplit.com/articles/323034/seeing-double-the-rise-of-flour-mounds-dynamo-distance-duo

Sam and Nicole Humphries are ranked 24 and 25 respectively on the MileSplit top 50 girls recruits for the class of 2024. Who is numero uno, you ask? None other than Mia Brahe-Pederson. Will she follow the likes of Alana Reid, though, and go pro?

Will she follow the likes of Alana Reid, though, and go pro? I wouldn't at all be surprised if Mia goes PRO. Maybe she can do a NIL deal with Nike and come to Eugene. She is currently coached by former Olympic Sprinter Ryan Bailey so if she does go PRO I could see her staying under him since it is clearly working.

Another Texan interested in the Ducks. Isabel Conde de Frankenberg from Cedar Park visited Eugene over the beautiful weekend. Dystat has her ranked #19 on the women’s cross country list ahead of Duck commit Sam Humphries. Isabel was 6th at NXN XC and 13th at Champs XC last year. On the track it appears last year ended early since she qualified but didn’t run in the TX state meet. She has a 57.11 400m best and 2:05.61 best 800m while wining the Nike Outdoor Nationals during her sophomore season.

Wow I don’t know how this stayed quiet for this long but after NON we secured a commitment from the #1 Shot Putter in the land, Ben Smith. The Junior from Hortonville, WI put the 12 lb implement 68’ 10.5” and threw the US #2 Discus 210’ 4.5”. Congrats to coach Blue on the commitment. Stats: www.athletic.net/athlete/18235206/track-and-field/high-schoolDuring his official visit in late September, elite throwers Trevor Gunzell and Christopher Young were in attendance. They both represent Jamaica and are in the US competing at the JC level I believe. An interesting not, Young can compete in all 4 throws.

I did pick up on a Twitter post about Ben Smith's commitment back in June See:
Perhaps these things cannot be made more official until the athlete starts his/her Senior year of high school?

Shalane has secured a verbal commitment from Landen LeBlond out of Arizona. Landen could use some rest since she competed in 30 races last year during the outdoor season. The Schumacher strategy of fewer races could really benefit her. She has bests of: 800m - 2:10.39 Mile - 4:44.60 3200m - 10:22.01 Stats: www.athletic.net/athlete/16717539/track-and-field/all

First commitment on the men's distance team. California native Anthony Fast Horse will be joining the squad next year. He has track PRs of 1:55/800; 4:10/Mile; and 8:51/3200. He has made significant improvement in XC compared to last year so he seemingly has some upside left and could be a XC contributor in 3/4 years.

A few weeks ago we had a number of recruits in town:
Emma Zawatski - since has committed to Colorado Isabel Conde Frankenberg - I mentioned her before Allison Ince - 400m, 54.91; 800m, 2:03.17; 1500m, 4:22.39 Makenzie McRae - 1600m, 4:53.84; 3200m, 10:22.90
Isabel and Allison are 5-star recruits and would be huge 800m additions for this program mostly built with 1500m runners.

Another football verbal commitment who could help the track team. Aydin Breland, 6'5" and 290 pounds gave his commitment to Oregon football today. Also competes in shot put and discus.
Finished seventh as a junior in the CIF Southern Section Division II discus finals with a 150-7 in May 2023. Set a personal record in the discus of 180-3 and added throws of 173-8 and 160-7 in Spring 2023.
Placed fifth as a sophomore in the CIF Southern Section Division II discus finals with a 166-11. Also broke 46 feet in the shot put in Spring 2022 with a 46-6 season-best throw.
